Before you apply to start salary packaging, here are a few tips to help with your application.

How much can I salary package?

If you work for a not for profit, disability or aged care organisation, the maximum amount you can salary package every Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year (1 April to 31 March) for living expenses is $15,900 ($611.54 each fortnight).

If you work for a private, not for profit or public hospital, the maximum amount you can salary package each FBT year for living expenses is $9,010 ($346.54 each fortnight).

The maximum amount you can salary package for Meal Entertainment is $2,650 ($101.92 each fortnight) every Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year.

What do I include in living expenses?

Most people start with their rent or mortgage repayments, but you can choose any of the items listed in the Supporting Documents table, and you can choose more than one.

You can salary package both living expenses and meal entertainment, but you can’t exceed the maximum amount allowed for each.

What if my expenses are more than the maximum allowed?

If you start salary packaging after 1 April, you can increase your salary package deductions to salary package your maximum annual amount between your start date and 31 March

If your total expenses exceed the maximum amount you can salary package, we will set your payments to the maximum allowed. This may mean we do not pay the full amount of the expense.

What paperwork do I need?

Have your employee number and payslip handy as you need to provide details about your employment, such as your employer, your role, your working arrangement (full time or part time), your payroll number and your salary.

Have your bank details ready as you need to confirm where we need to pay your money.

For each expense, have the relevant supporting documents ready as you need to upload these too.

What happens next

Once your application has been submitted, we will contact you if we need any more information to be able to set up your salary packaging.

We will then set up your account, email your log in details and advise your employer of the amount to deduct from your salary each pay.

You employer will deduct your salary packaging money and send to us each pay.

We will add this money to your salary packaging account for the expenses you have chosen to include.

If we have the supporting documents we need, the following day, we will pay this money back to you. You need to confirm the details of your bank account so we can do this.

If you have chosen a salary packaging card, we will add this money to your card each pay. You don’t need to provide supporting documents if you have chosen this option.
