Your salary packaging
For some benefits, there is a maximum amount you can salary package each Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) year (1 April to 31 March). You don’t have to package the full amount, but if you do, it means you are making the most of the tax savings available.
If you start salary packaging part way through the FBT year, you can still take advantage of the annual salary packaging limits. This is known as maximising and means even if you start salary packaging in January, you can still salary package your full annual limit between January and March 31.
Your salary packaging limits
The amount of your annual limit depends on the industry you work in and the benefit you package.
| Industry | Living expenses | Meal entertainment |
| Not for profit | $15,900 | $2,650 |
| Health | $9,010 | $2,650 |
| Rebatable* | $15,900 | $2,403 |
*If you work for a rebatable employer, you will need to pay Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT) on your salary packaging. However, your FBT liability will be reduced (you will receive a rebate on the amount you are charged). Additionally, savings example for Meal Entertainment is based on the assumption that the expenditure includes GST.
